Eels have been pedaling their alt rock since ’95, headed up by front man (and only ever present member) Mark Oliver Everett or E as he’s known to his fans….Arguably their most famous tune being ‘ Novocaine For the Soul was released in ’96.
The genre straddling sounds they produce have seen them birth 7 albums since ’96 the most recent being a live album in 2015 preceded by The Cautionary Tales of Mark Everett 12 months earlier.
E released Electro Shock Blues in 1998. The album deals with difficult subjects such as suicide, death, and cancer following the tragic events in his personal life…the suicide of his sister and the loss of his mother to cancer…
Everett noted, “if Electro-Shock Blues was the phone call in the middle of the night that the world doesn’t want to answer, then Daisies of the Galaxy is the hotel wake-up call that says your lovely breakfast is ready”. Daisies was released just two years later in 2000…spawning Mr E’s Beautiful Blues….(“Goddamn right, it’s a beautiful day”!)
